STC and start ups

Phytoponics is an agricultural technology startup that had developed a new type of growing system for high nutrient crops with deep water culture. Phytoponics offers growers higher levels of root zone control within their system than substrate systems, leading to higher yields and better quality, all at the same or lower cost than rockwool. Highly sustainable and recyclable, their demonstration plant is set up at STC growing high grade piccolo tomatoes, snack peppers and strawberries.

Home Harvest Salads Ltd was set up in 2004 to research and develop Living Salads, an in-store tray of growing leaves for the consumer to cut fresh at home. Initial trials work and product optimisation was conducted at Stockbridge Technology Centre. This work gave potential investors and retailers evidence that STC had supported and developed the product, giving the product the credibility it needed to get off the ground, accompanied by reliable evidence of what the product could achieve.
