Warwick University has announced today the University Council has considered a recommendation to establish a stand-alone Applied Crop Research Centre. Council’s deliberations noted that consultations with external stakeholders to date showed there was significant support among funding bodies and industrial partners for the University to retain translational (i.e. applied) crop research that could draw on specialist facilities at Wellesbourne and the capabilities of a number of staff within Warwick HRI that were valued by industrial partners.
Council approved the recommendation in principle noting that the proposal will be presented to a meeting with external stakeholders to be hosted by the University next week, and also noting that the University’s Finance and General Purposes Committee will continue to examine the sustainability and commercial basis of the proposed Centre.
